Synopsis

Six years after the events of Harold (John Cho) & Kumar (Kal Penn) Escape From Guantanamo Bay, best friends and roommates Harold Lee and Kumar Patel have since gone their separate ways. Harold has become a successful businessman on Wall Street, has given up smoking cannabis, and has married his girlfriend, Maria (Paula Garcés). Kenneth (Bobby Lee) is Harold's personal assistant.Kumar on the other hand is poor, and still lives in the messy apartment he once shared with Harold. It's the holiday season and Kumar is buying pot from Mall Santa Larry Juston (Patton Oswalt). Wafflebot is the hot new toy during this particular holiday period. Wafflebot is a robot that cooks and serves waffles.

Kumar has recently been dumped by his wife Vanessa (Danneel Harris), who arrives at Kumar's apartment to inform him that she is pregnant with his child. Kumar still lives in a mess and has made no progress towards completing medical school.Maria's father and Harold's father-in-law Mr. Carlos Perez (Danny Trejo), decides to stay at Harold and Maria's house for the Christmas holiday.Mr. Perez (who doesn't like Harold) also brings over his prized Christmas tree (along with his entire extended family) that he had been growing for eight years and gives Harold a small lecture about the tree's importance (which involves a story about how his mother was killed by "Korean punks" one week before Christmas).Harold is worried about finding the perfect Christmas present for Carlos so that he can start liking him. Carlos is a huge fan of Christmas and Harold has decorated the whole house in a Christmas theme to impress him. Harold made an effort to learn Spanish but keeps getting the words wrong as he pronounces cuss words instead, scandalizing Maria's family. To make up, Harold offers to look over the tree and decorate it, while Maria and her family enjoys a family night in Manhattan.

Kumar receives a package with Harold's name on it at his apartment and being that the two haven't lived together in years, Kumar decides to deliver it to Harold. At Harold's house, they discover the item inside to be a large marijuana joint.Kumar, who can't resist smoking it, lights it up, but Harold (who has given up drugs) flicks it out of his hand, only for it to land in the tree, burning it down. Harold panics as Maria's family will return after the midnight mass (at around 2 AM) and expect to see a tree, and Christmas will be ruined when they find it burned down.Harold kicks Kumar out of the house. Harold and his friend Todd reserve a tree at the Christmas Tree lot. But Kumar and his friend Adrian reach there first and Kumar pays triple for the last available tree, as he didn't know that the same tree was reserved by Harold. As they drive away, they are followed by Harold, who found out at the lot that 2 punks bought the tree he reserved. Kumar and Adrian end up having an accident in their car and the tree is destroyed.

Harold learns that Kumar's new friend & next door neighbor Adrian (Amir Blumenfeld) is attending a party with a hot date, who has a similar looking Christmas tree in her home. Harold promises Adrian that he, along with Harold's new friend Todd (Tom Lennon), and Kumar, will drive him to the party on the condition that Harold can have the tree. Todd is travelling with his daughter.

They arrive at the party, where a girl named Mary (Jordan Hinson) wants to have sex with Adrian, while Harold and Kumar are challenged to a game of beer pong by Mary's brother. Harold and Kumar relive their youth as they win the beer pong contest.Todd's daughter poops in her diaper and he cannot find a free room to change her diaper in. All rooms are occupied with people having sex or drugs. It turns out that Mary is the daughter of a Ukrainian mob kingpin named Sergei Katsov (Elias Koteas). When Adrian finds out, he goes limp and cannot have sex with Mary. Mary is livid and wants to lose her virginity and chooses Harold. Kumar tries to restrain her as she attempts to give a BJ to Harold. This is when Katsov walks in and believes his daughter to have been sexually assaulted by Harold and Kumar, he sends two of his men to kill them.

The duo successfully makes it out of the building, without the Christmas tree, and run into Andy Rosenberg (Eddie Kaye Thomas) and Seth Goldstein (David Krumholtz), two of their friends, for the first time in years. Meanwhile Todd, his daughter and Adrian are stuck inside a closet in Katsov's penthouse.

Harold and Kumar contemplate their next move and are mistaken for extras by a staffing director. They ultimately end up participating in a Christmas show featuring Neil Patrick Harris, who was believed to be dead after being shot outside a Texas brothel six years earlier. Harris reveals that he did die but had been kicked out of Heaven by Jesus Christ (Jake Johnson). Harris hooks the pair up with a Christmas tree, and a Wafflebot.

The two make their way to Harold's house to put up the tree but end up being kidnapped by two of Katsov's men, only to have Wafflebot save them. After accidentally shooting Santa Claus (Richard Riehle) in the head, Kumar (who has medical training) gives him emergency surgery. In exchange for saving his life, Santa agrees to drive the two back to their homes.

Kumar arrives home, only to be encountered by Mr. Perez, who is irate when he discovers his Christmas tree is gone. Harold explains that he may not be the perfect son-in-law, but he is the perfect guy for Maria.Mr. Perez then says that he always knew Harold was a nice guy, he just wanted to make sure that he had "Cojones" before accepting him into his family.Harold and Kumar rekindle their friendship, Harold decides to smoke pot again, Kumar and Vanessa rekindle their romance, and Kumar tells Vanessa that he will re-take the exams to become a doctor, for the sake of their unborn child.
