Professor Nikitin, a Russian Literature specialist, receives an undeniable request from Professor Boris Schnaiderman; advised by a psychiatrist, Nikitin will teach Russian to help Joana heal from her disorder. Among lessons, poetry and romance, Nikitin falls in love with Joana, who is becoming more and more involved with Anna K.
