A woman is convicted of killing her friend and boyfriend in the heat of passion although she is defended by a top lawyer. She flees after the trial to learn who framed her.

New York City actuary Cassie Stewart is charged with a double homicide; the two victims were close to her and found shot dead in her apartment, she herself discovered at that time outside of the apartment unit unconscious with the murder weapon. High-powered criminal trial lawyer L.G. Mennick takes her case pro bono and is upfront about doing so, which he has done in the past with other such high-profile cases, solely to keep his name in the public consciousness. While Mennick is able to defend Cassie on a seeming path to an acquittal, evidence anonymously makes its way into the hands of the police, making the acquittal less certain. While trusting Mennick, Cassie instead decides to go into hiding and investigate on her own. She is certain that the murder has something to do with a unique custom-made necklace given to her by one of the victims. Cassie comes to believe that the only person she can trust is Homicide Detective Rudy Shatz, who led the original investigation into the murders. Their partnership leads to their lives being placed in danger as the real murderer begins to feel threatened.—Huggo
