Brooklyn Girl is a street art/anime, near-future, "interactive experience" series about a high school student named Misha and her crew of 5 friends who are superheroes in a parallel universe.
Brooklyn Girl is a street art/anime series set in the near future about a high school student named Misha and her crew of 5 friends. Misha has a vivid imagination and daydreams in English class. Through her handwritten journaling, Misha documents superhero-like daydreams as if she's writing a shoujo manga/fantasy/action-adventure novel-turned-music video in which she's the star. In her writings, her friends have elemental superhero powers and battle various people to overcome the adversity they are facing. Unbeknownst to her, Misha's visions are from a parallel universe and she and her crew really are superheroes battling evil adversaries from their distant generations.
Misha is coming of age, exploring her ideal self for issues surrounding her sexuality, budding romances, future hopes, dreams, and self-security that she can overcome things that can't in real life address comfortably. She wants to be a writer when she grows up. Through her handwritten journaling, Misha documents her superhero-like daydreams as if she's writing a romance / fantasy romance novel in which she's the star.
Misha is often seen in English, History, and Spanish class and is also involved in Drama (works backstage, but she is a little clumsy), and later she also joins Debate after school. She is wicked smart and has all A's except in English, but isn't in "AP classes". She tends to be shy in real life around people she doesn't know, but she is polite. There is a massive difference between the actual ("IRL" - in real life), shy dreamer Misha, and her daydream alter ego superhero ("IFL" - in fantasy life) who is an outgoing, guy-magnet. She may start to grow frustrated at times when people don't react to her in real life the way they do in her daydreams.
Shanie Chang aka "Changie" (pronounced "Chang-ee") is Misha's best friend. Changie IRL is a funny, sarcastic, and outspoken confrontational person. She is a skater/biker/daredevil and also is the first in the crew to get a car! In Misha's parallel universe, Changie's elemental power is water; she can manipulate and control liquid, molding it into any desired shape, dehydrating or hydrating anything (form tsunamis, form water half-pipes, etc). Her signature move is to whip her long ponytail back and forth in a circle, summoning a tidal wave, which she rides in the air on her skateboard-turned longboard.
Raelyn is Misha's other best friend and is 1 year younger; Rae is a successful social media influencer with their own inspirational self-love channel with broad appeal. It's "cool" to be friends with Raelyn; they are well-liked by their peers and they have an older, protective brother who is a superstar athlete. In Misha's parallel universe, Rae possesses the elemental power of light (aka electricity) and they cause the life energy of an environment to change through the reflection from their magical glitter (generate, absorb fields, change superficial environment lighting or decor, turn lights on and off, generate lightning bolts, etc.) Their signature move is to throw glitter which causes electric elements in the environment to change.
