The film about Asta Nielsen gives a special insight into the unique friendship between the aging silent film diva and the bohemian Frede Schmidt, 35 years her junior. Through secretly recorded telephone conversations and with glimpses of her career, a very personal portrait is drawn of 'Die Asta', who dedicated her life to her artistic work - for better or for worse.—DR
