A Village goldsmith gets betrayed by the woman he loves.

Inspired by the folk tales passed on from one generation to another, 'Dus Tola' is a simply told story of victory of goodness over greed. The story is set in Sonapur, a quaint little town that has its share of eccentrics. Shankar (Manoj Bajpayee), the local goldsmith, is head-over-heels in love with his neighbor's daughter Suvarnalata (Aarti Chhabria) much to the chagrin of her father Daya Shastri (Dilip Prabahvalkar). Shastri is bent upon finding her a suitable groom from Dubai and cover her with gold at the wedding, which will help him climb up the social ladder. Armed with nothing but a heart of pure gold, Shankar sets out to overcome the obstacles of devious plots and heartache. 'Dus Tola', a slice-of-life tale which mirrors our society, and is light-hearted in its narrative.—NR2

Shankar Sonar lives a poor lifestyle in Sonapur along with his ailing father, Bhaskar; mother Padma; and a sister, Anju, who is of marriageable age. He is in love with Suvarnalata, the daughter of his neighbor, Pandit Daya Shastri and Lakshmi. Daya wants his daughter to live a wealthy lifestyle, does not approve of Shankar, and arranges her marriage with Dubai-based Ravi. Suvarnalata asks Shankar to make a Dus Tola necklace to give her as a gift, and this will compel her parents to get them married. Shankar is not convinced as the family gold is being held over for Anju's marriage. She convinces him that after the marriage, the gold will his anyway, so he agrees to this scheme, prepares the necklace and gifts it to her when they are alone. Shortly thereafter Shankar's life will be turned upside down when Daya will convince his daughter that the necklace was presented as a brotherly gift, arranges her marriage with Ravi, and refuses to permit Shankar to meet with her. When the Sarpanch and other villagers hear about this, they gather together and instruct Daya to let his daughter speak for herself. To Shankar's shock she denies ever having accepted this necklace nor made any commitment to marry him. After this shocking denial and the loss of the family gold - what options are open for Shankar?—rAjOo ([email protected])
