Viktor is rootless and restless, spending his time making easy money. At the town's patisseries, Viktor meets the elderly neglected women who are willing to pay for a night with him. Viktor's only friend, Claus, cuts ties with him in disgust when he finds out where Viktor's money comes from. The meeting with the widow Esther makes Viktor stop for a short while, the dramatic end of the relationship causes the easy life to collapse.
