Synopsis

This Netflix series is based on the real TV series aired for the four years between 1986 and 1990. Each year the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW) show consisted of 26 episodes (usually comprised of eight wrestling matches) specifically recorded for TV. Here Marc Maron portrays schlock movie producer Sam Sylvia who conceived of and watched over the development of the syndicated series. To attract women wrestlers, Sam advertises and chooses the future GLOW ladies from the weird collection of characters who answered the ad. Alison Brie plays out of work actress Ruth Wilder now she's a wrestler, as is Betty Gilpin who plays Debbie Eagan. Each wrestling recruit then devises a persona for the ring - Shiela the She-Wolf, the Welfare Queen, and other characters for the crowd to root for or against. Oh yes, they also have to learn how to wrestle. An additional problem: after preparing for the first wrestling match, their financing fell through but in the end all the GLOW women pull together and stage a crowd-pleasing match for broadcast.
