Summaries

The story of a small-time First Republic crook with a weak mind, told by the creators of the TV adaptation in the form of a retrospective trial. A naive dreamer and a weakling with a desire for wealth, railroad man Marsik had a wife and two children. He lived with his uncouth father-in-law, who blamed him for his lack of money and would have preferred to evict his daughter and the whole family. Marsík had an exaggerated opinion of himself and spun naive fantasies and dreams of a better life in which he could still make a fortune. He put an advertisement in the newspaper that he was looking for a wife. The ad was answered by an elderly maid, an old maid who had saved all her life and had a few thousand in her book. He had been seeing the maid, but in time she grew impatient and wanted to get married.—EuroFan
