An adaptation of the short-lived manga series "Honey Honey's Wonderful Adventures" (1966-1967) by Hideko Mizuno. The story opens in Vienna, Austria-Hungary in 1907. The young and beautiful Princess Flora celebrates her birthday. She wears the priceless gemstone "Smile of the Amazon" as a part of her ring. During Flora's conversation with the jewel thief Phoenix, the young man implies that her beauty is inferior to that of the ring. In a temper tantrum, Flora places her ring in a cooked fish and throws it out of a window. Flora soon declares that she will marry whichever of her suitors returns the ring to her, unwittingly sending everyone into a treasure hunting quest. The fish is eaten by the pet cat of the orphaned waitress Honey Honey, who swallows the ring along with her meal. Honey Honey then finds herself chased by strangers, so she flees the city on a hot-air balloon with her pet. The young woman subsequently travels through several countries while being followed by Princess Flora herself, Phoenix (who she finds to be attractive), and by several of Flora's suitors. In the process of escaping her foes, Honey Honey finds out that she is Flora's long-lost sister.—Dimos I
