Die Erzieher:innen wollen keine Ersatzeltern sein, und dennoch zeigen, wie sich ein familiäres Miteinander anfühlen kann. Sie bieten Vorbilder und Verlässlichkeit, die die Kinder allzu oft schmerzlich vermissen. Alle Kinder, die hier leben, vereint vor allem eines: der Wunsch eines Tages nach Hause zurückzukehren. Dafür setzen sich die Erzieher:innen unermüdlich ein, sprechen mit Vormund, Eltern und Jugendamt, dokumentieren, organisieren, setzen gemeinsam Zieleund treffen Verabredungen - und sind nicht selten darüber enttäuscht, dass diese nicht eingehalten werden. Das erinnert an einen Kampf gegen Windmühlen, an den Grenzen eines überforderten Systems. Was früher das Dorf war, ist heute der komplexe Apparat der Kinder- und Jugendhilfe. Spätestens seit der Pandemie gilt das Berufsfeld als systemrelevant, und dennoch bleibt die besondere wie herausfordernde Arbeit der Fachkräfte, ihr unermüdlicher Einsatz zum Wohl der Kinder, meist unsichtbar.
