Two young lovers change their lives drastically after the 1968 revolt, leading to choices that move them in different directions.
The movie is about a group of college students who made a revolution in 1968 Paris and decided to drop out of college and move to the countryside to live their own life away from the rules of the city. It then follows their lives as some of them leave the country side and decide to go back to city life, and as new people come mainly their children who we see grow up to become adults and form part of the next generation. We see the main character of the movie who is a free spirited woman over the course of 20 years or so of her life from the time that she was a young college drop out to the time when she was an aged mother of 3 children. All the characters of the movie seem to revolve around her as she is the mother, the lover, the friend, and the neighbor of different people. We later see the development of her 2 children, one of which a girl who decides to leave her mother and move to the city to pursue her dreams, and her boy who later grows up to become homosexual and starts an affair with the son of their neighbor from the countryside. Both of them end turning HIV positive after being engaged in homosexual relationships. The movie is about the struggles and challenges of living life away from the normal rules of life creating a parallel lifestyle. It's often very slow and the dialogue is not rich enough to explain all the events and developments in the plot so it is best to watch every minute very closely to understand what is going on.We also see characters who come from different ethnic or cultural backgrounds like Iran and Algeria.
