A woman accustomed to always having the last word in every situation finds herself trying to "rescue" her grandson Jesse from being signed away to grow up in an institution for Down Syndrome children.

A young couple has twins; unfortunately, one of them, Jesse, has Down syndrome. After realizing that she has difficulties coping, the mother, Tammy, decides to place Jesse with a family that has taken in several similar children. Jesse's grandparents object, believing that he will be better off living with his real family. As Tammy's mother starts fighting for custody of the child, she reawakens old hostilities between herself and her daughter, and the entire family is affected.—Signy
