Vicente a simple and honest shopkeeper, who is desperate as he can't pay a letter of credit the next day. He humbly asks a few people he knows are well-off to lend him the money, and one by one they all refuse, with lame excuses. Later in the day, Vicente considers suicide: anything but dishonor. And then, one by one, people he wouldn't turn to, interrupt his dark thoughts to offer him money: his daughter's fiancé had been saving money for the marriage; his wife had a secret nest-egg...
