Summaries

One Second at a Time is a documentary about addiction and recovery, told through the story of Christine Ortoll, a young woman who fought, and ultimately lost, a ten-year battle with mental illness and substance use disorder via overdose.

Christine's struggle is told from her own journals and by those who supported her the most, including family, close friends, and countless experts in the addiction industry. Father Mike Ortoll also shares the lessons he learned in seeking help for Christine's dual diagnosis in over 20 recovery facilities. He finds his life's purpose founding a charity in his daughter's name and exposing the dangers of mental illness, substance use disorder and the lethality of fentanyl. The Christine Ortoll Recovery Organization's mission is to provide mental health and substance use education to primary schools, expand college recovery programs, and reform the delivery and cost of treatment by healthcare providers. Drug overdose is now the leading cause of death for 18-45-year-olds in the USA and we hope to fight it together as Christine wanted.—Christine Ortoll Recovery Organization
