Synopsis

In the opening scene, Travis (Deyonte 'Tatted' Hunter), a young African-American man walks down the darkened aisle of an empty church sanctuary in Memphis, Tennessee. As he makes his way through the church, he passes two doors before entering the third. Behind the door waits Priest Diaz (Richard Siegelman). With a gun resting on his lap and a blunt between his fingers, Travis begins his confession to Priest Diaz where he divulges he has committed a murder.

During better times, a close scoring basketball game between Travis' high school team and its rival is in its final seconds. While in the team's last timeout, the coach calls a play for Rob (Jalen Moffit) the co-captain to take the final shot but Travis, as captain, has his own plan. To the frustration of an open Rob, he takes the winning shot to lead his team to victory. In the locker room, tensions rise. Both the coach (Bren Ransom) and Rob angrily remind Travis that basketball is a team sport. For his selfish play, he is punished with having to attend an early morning workout before storming out of the locker room.

Out in the parking lot, Rico (Tenichi Garner), Travis' older brother waits for him. The two discuss the game among other things, including Rico's intentions to leave the "streets" behind and his hopes for Travis' future. Just as their conversation turns to their mother, the sound of police sirens approach. Knowing that he is not with clean hands, Rico switches cell phones with his brother. Before their impending arrests, Rico confides in Travis that he has a stash hidden at his girlfriend Darlene's (Kea Stephens) house to use for an attorney. Unbeknownst to him, all is not well with his stash.

While at work, Naomi (Shalonda SJ Johnson), Travis' older girlfriend learns of their arrests. Her worst fears are put to rest when she meets Travis and his mother Brenda (Shi Smith) after he is released from custody. Later that night, Travis expresses concerns of how Rico's time away will emotionally and financially affect his family.

The next morning, Travis meets with his best friend Don (Derek Seals) after school to share the details of Rico's arrest. In the middle of their conversation, they are interrupted by Agent Parker (Maurin Penn), who has come to obtain Rico's phone. Travis plays naive, but the agent doesn't buy his act. However, without any proof that he is lying, Agent Parker has no other choice but to drop the matter.

Travis, accompanied by Don, finally get the opportunity to visit Darlene's house, only to discover that she has been murdered and Rico's stash has been stolen. Shortly after, Travis receives a call from his brother in jail, via a smuggled cell phone, to share the bad news.

Back in the present, Travis continues his confession. The events that lead Travis to Priest Diaz's office proceed to unfold.

Travis and Naomi share an intimate moment at home when they discuss her pregnancy. Travis is happy but initially it's hard for him to show it after the day he's had. He temporarily expresses his delight, however as soon as Naomi leaves the room the weight of the new responsibility takes its toll on him. Later that day at practice, the coach delivers the unfortunate news on the future of his college basketball career. Back at home, the conversation with his coach flashes through his mind as he relives receiving devastating information on the future of his college basketball career. Rico calls and upon learning Naomi is pregnant and there are no college prospects, he finally relents to Travis working for him while he's in jail. Without any other way to pay for Rico's attorney, Travis makes the fateful decision to take over Rico's drug enterprise in his absence.

Now fully invested in providing for his family, Travis meets with Money Mo' (Ricky D. Smith), Rico's cocaine supplier. In a brief exchange, Travis gets what he needs from Money Mo' and in the process learns that purchasing product isn't as clear cut as he thought it would be.Back at Brenda's house, Travis looks on as her drug addiction is on full display. She expresses regret for where she is in her life and how much she misses her deceased husband who had been murdered. Seeing his mother's vulnerabilities, Travis reassures her that he will take care of everything.

In another part of town, Naomi walks into work, but before she can begin her day she is called into her boss', Mr. Dixon's (Ketrick 'Jazz' Copeland), office. The conversation begins about her tardiness but then takes a turn for the worse forcing Naomi to quit her job.

At home, Travis and Don discuss Money Mo' and how the man they now work for is not someone to be taken lightly. A stunned Naomi walks in to discover Travis mixing cocaine on a table. Travis defends his reason; however, Naomi doesn't want to hear the premise behind his decision making.

Again, Rico calls from jail. Travis updates him on everything that's been happening in his absence. At that moment Rico informs Travis that his friend Murda (Eric 'E-Gotti' Johnson), is being released from jail and will help him navigate the streets.

With Murda now by his side, Travis investigates Rico's murdered girlfriend and his missing stash. He quickly learns that Murda isn't just his new associate's nickname. However, the new hustle pays off and Travis is able to deliver the much-needed money to Rico's attorney. In the meantime, by happenstance Travis meets Eva (Jessica Valentine) and her son Pedro (BJ McClain) and the three become very close.

Everything in Travis' life seems to be coming together until he receives a call from Money Mo' beckoning him to a meeting. Not wanting to go alone, Travis calls Don to tag along. Not long into the meeting, the two learn what it means to be in business with Money Mo'.

Sooner than later, the new demands placed on Travis by Money Mo' begin to affect him. That coupled with new information on Rico, provided by Murda, leads him further into a life of crime to the displeasure of his older brother. Rico, being wise to Murda and his ways, hatches a plan to determine Murda's true loyalties.

Things between Money Mo' and Travis worsen when he finds out that Naomi and Money Mo' were once a couple.

Once again, back in the present Travis continues his confession which leads to the story of Eva.

Travis receives a phone call from an upset Eva and he rushes to be by her side. Upon arriving at her door, Eva explains in a disjointed story that Pedro has been removed from her home by Child Protective Services. Travis comforts her and the two end up sleeping together, despite his relationship with Naomi.

Meanwhile, Murda meets with Agent Parker where Rico's suspicions are found to be true. As it turns out, Murda is Agent Parker's confidential informant and has lots to share on Travis. In the midst of their conversation, Murda also admits that Travis has passed beyond the point of no return.

In the present, Travis admits during his confession that in his efforts to help his brother and provide for his family, he made a few mistakes. Priest Diaz tries to comfort him as he resumes his story.

In the middle of basketball practice, Travis receives a phone call from a worried Naomi. In spite of the admonitions of his coach, he leaves practice and sacrifices the remainder of his season to meet Naomi. As soon as the two meet, Naomi immediately warns Travis that his home is under surveillance. Together they piece together that Murda is setting up Travis. During their conversation, the story of Naomi's felonious past and relationship with Money Mo' is revealed. It enrages Travis and he vows revenge on everyone who has wronged him.

Travis continues his relationship with Eva and becomes aware that the two of them have more of a connection than he first thought. Much like everyone else in his life, there is more to Eva than it appears.

Although Travis is onto Murda's betrayal, the two continue to work together as part of his plan for revenge. As expected, Murda sticks to his traitorous ways and continues to help Agent Parker.

Nearing the end of his confession, Travis reveals the resolution of his and Murda's relationship as Priest Diaz patiently listens. In the not so distant past, Agent Parker monitors the wiretap facilitated by Murda. He overhears Travis arranging a meeting with Money Mo' at the church. As scheduled, Money Mo' arrives. He and Travis share small talk before their transaction; however, Travis has a different plan for the meeting.

Back in the present, Priest Diaz questions the fate of Eva. Travis answers and shares a story that had been shared between the two. Priest Diaz recites a prayer for her, just before Travis finishes his tale of betrayal.

One year later, Travis and Rico share one more phone call, where Rico praises his brother's resilience and strength.
