Dutch, a charismatic and hot headed tuna fisherman, stumbles into a prominent role in his fishery union. After a failed strike, Dutch is demoted and his pride is badly wounded. Dutch's ambitions force him to quit his job and drive apart him and his wife, equally-stubborn cannery worker Hattie. Dutch and Hattie have an abiding love for each other, but must also overcome their pride.
