A former clan sword instructor fallen on hard times is hired to kill a supposed demon cat. Realizing he cannot kill it, he "adopts" the cat, who becomes his companion and changes his life.

Former clan sword instructor Kyutaro Madarame, now a masterless samurai fallen on hard times, is hired by a lord's retainers to kill a white cat that they believe is actually a demon that has bewitched their lord. However, upon coming face to face with the cat, he cannot bring himself to go through with the act. Instead, after convincing the retainers that the "demon cat" has been destroyed, he takes the cat into his home, where it becomes his companion and begins to change Madarame's life in unexpected ways.—TV
