Synopsis

Banteshwar Singh Bollad/ Banta (Vir Das) and Santheshwar Singh Sollad/ Santa (Boman Irani) are 2 Sikhs living in Patiala. Santa and Banta are homeless vagabonds who live on marriage feasts and bathe in the fields. It is revealed that Santa's wife Billoo left him.The duo believe that they bring joy into people's lives with their innocent antics and simplicity.

Shankar Roy (Ayub Khan), is the Indian High Commissioner in Fiji and is married to Kareena (Neha Dhupia). Sankar is abducted from his residence.Akbar Allahbadi (Sanjay Mishra) is a RAW agent in Fiji. Sonu Sultan (Ram Kapoor) is Shankar's best friend in Fiji. Akbar says that Shankar was investigating the Royal Marine shipping company at the time of his abduction. This company was being used as a front by many influential people for their illegal activities.

Hanumanth Singh (Tinnu Anand) is the RAW chief in India. Arvind Dharival (Vijay Raaz) reports to Hanumanth, but feels he is useless as a RAW chief. Hanumanth wants to send IB's top agents to Fiji and finds that a pair of top agents goes by the alias Santa Banta these days and were known as Jai-Veeru earlier.Arvind is sent to bring them in for the mission, but the crack agent pair is incognito. Arvind tracks them down to Punjab. This is when the local Santa and Banta are brought into the police station for transporting adulterated liquor (which Santa's friend had asked him to do as a favor). Arvind knows that the duo has no ID and are not the spies he is looking for. But he wants to humiliate Hanumanth and picks up the local Santa - Banta as the real spies.

Arvind scares Santa - Banta by saying that if they do not cooperate, they would be sent to jail for 3 years. Arvind gets Santa - Banta to impersonate as real spies on the phone with Hanumanth and then sends them off to Fiji.In Fiji, Santa-Banta re picked up by Akbar.

Their arrival is tracked by local Chooza Don / Pushkar Nepali (Johnny Level), and his henchmen Teetar (Vrajesh Hirjee) and Bater (Vijay Patkar). Chooza hates Santa for imprisoning him earlier in his career and deputes Teetar and Bater to apprehend the spies. But Teetar and Bater are also comedic and incompetent and fail every time they go to capture the alleged spies.

At the hotel, Santa-Banta are mistaken as drug suppliers and taken to the local drugs dealer Antonio Kapoor (Ranjeet Bedi). Antonio realizes that Santa-Banta are not drug suppliers and are in fact secret agents. Santa-Banta escape Antonio by pointing his own gun at him. They are saved by Queenie Taneja a.k.a Cutie (Lisa Haydon) who is under cover agent of RAW.

Cutie helps Santa-Banta to check into their room at the hotel. Akbar and Cutie bring them up to speed with Shankar's case, and Santa is amazed to find that Kareena looks exactly like Billoo. They are given laser pens, magnetic watch and latest guns for their mission.Santa-Banta meet Kareena at her house and find that Shankar's friend Sonu is an antiques dealer.

Akbar and Cutie take Santa-Banta to meet Sonu Sultan. They mistakenly activate their laser pen and destroy the shop. Sonu invites Santa-Banta for a big Diwali party that he is hosting in Fiji. The party is on Sonu's yacht and Sonu arranges for the agents to be thrown overboard.Turns out Arvind was working in cahoots with Sonu, and Sonu knew that Santa-Banta were fake agents. Santa and Banta were lucky to be rescued at sea by Cutie.

Kareena meets Santa-Banta and says that she suspects that Shankar orchestrated his own kidnapping.Meanwhile the real agents Santa-Banta/Jai Veeru contact Hanumanth from Sydney. They realize that somebody is impersonating them in Fiji. Hanumanth sends Arvind to Fiji to get the situation under control.

Meanwhile, Chooza reaches the hotel himself to look for the spies Santa-Banta with Teetar and Bater. Teetar and Bater identify Santa-Banta as the spies, but Chooza says that they are not the spy Santa-Banta.This is when Arvind arrives at the hotel and asks Santa-Banta to leave Fiji. He herds them into the back of a truck, supposedly going to the airport, but in reality, being delivered to Sonu. But the truck is followed by Chooza, as Teetar and Bater have convinced him that he let the spy Santa-Banta to leave.

Shankar is revealed to be in Sonu's custody. Shankar was investigating Sonu's antiques business which was a front for smuggling drugs and hence was kidnapped. Shankar knew that Kareena was working with Sonu.Santa & Banta are delivered to Sonu.Sonu calls Akbar and Cutie and says that he wants $50 million as ransom to release Shankar. Arvind takes the money to Sonu and asks Akbar and Cutie to attack if he doesn't contact them within an hour.

As Sonu decides to shoot Santa and Banta, Chooza arrives at the location and wants to shoot Santa. Arvind calls Sonu and tells him that he is escaping with the money, thus betraying Sonu.Sonu attacks Santa and Banta, when Akbar and Cutie decide to launch a rescue mission as they haven't heard from Arvind.Santa-Banta manage to defeat Sonu and Kareena, when Cutie and Akbar arrive with force. Santa & Banta return home and receive an official request to join RAW as full time agents.
