A documentary on Brazilian Formula One racing driver Ayrton Senna, who won the F1 world championship three times before his death at age 34.
The story of the monumental life and tragic death of legendary Brazilian motor-racing Champion, Ayrton Senna. Spanning the decade from his arrival in Formula One in the mid 80's, the film follows Senna's struggles both on track against his nemesis, French World Champion Alain Prost, and off it, against the politics which infest the sport. Sublime, spiritual yet, on occasion, ruthless - Senna conquers and transcends Formula One to become a global superstar. Privately, he is humble, almost shy, and fiercely patriotic, donating millions to his native Brasil and contemplating a life beyond motor-racing. Yet he is struck down in his prime on the blackest weekend in the history of the sport, watched live on television by 300 million people. Years on he is revered in Formula One as the greatest motor racing driver of all time - and in Brasil as a Saint.—Anonymous
The 2010 Senna movie is a documentary about the career of Ayrton Senna as a Formula One driver.
The movie begins with a hot new rookie into Formula One in 1984, named Ayrton Senna, racing for Toleman and Lotus. Senna then goes to race with McLaren, where he builds a rivalry with teammate Alain Prost. Senna was also facing political difficulties with Jean-Marie Balestre.
The rivalry between the two McLaren teammates hit a peak in 1989, with a controversial crash that gave Prost the world title and then 1990 for Sennas first driver's championship. The film shows all the tumult that Senna went through as world champion.
In an interview, Senna announced his belief that innovation and upgrading the cars lead to the domination of the Williams cars. Prost joined the Williams team, ultimately rekindling their rivalry. Prost claimed he didn't want to be on the same team as Senna anymore. At the end of the 1993 season, Prost retires and Senna gets a drive with the all dominant Williams.
In 1994, the F1 rules and regulations change, prohibiting the use of electronic driver aids. Unfortunately for Senna, the new Williams isn't as competitive as it's former counterparts and it is Benetton with Michael Schumacher who wins the first two races of the 1994 season.
The final weekend of Sennas life in San Marino began with a nasty crash during qualifying for fellow driver, Roland Ratzenberger, ultimately leading to his death. Senna was under a lot of stress and he was worried about the safety of his car as they have a weakness after a track accident in 3 consecutive days. Rubéns Barrichello, Roland Ratzenberger, and JJ Lehto stalls his car at the start of the race and is hit at speed by Pedro Lamy, ultimately bringing out the Safety Car.
7 laps into the race, Senna crashes and later passes away. The conclusion to the film is of the Senna family and some close friends all attending Ayrtons funeral, mourning for his loss.
