Synopsis

In this remarkable documentary, Salma Hayak, Enrique Beltranena and Fher Olvera observe the growing environmental crisis in the Cloud Forests of Central America, and ask, "Will the Quetzal be able to survive habitat destruction?"Through the centuries the Quetzal has survived, from its mythological symbolism in the pantheon of the Maya and Mexica, to today where it lives as a fragile species in the Cloud Forests of Mesoamerica and Central America.Humankind is putting the Quetzal's habitat in Guatamala at risk. Commerce, in the form of logging, is seriously disrupting ecological corridors that are of vital importance to the Quetzal's survival, and let's not forget that the Quetzal has seen other species disappear from these forests.SERPIENTE EMPLUMADA brings together internationally renowned archaeologists, historians, musicians and biologists to share their knowledge and their points of view about environmentalism, mysticism and the sacred meanings of the greatest Deity of the Olmeca, Maya and Mexica cultures: Quetzalcoatl.SERPIENTE EMPLUMADA exposes the great beauty of the region which is habitat to the Quetzal and it allows us, and future generations, to understand the tremendous need to preserve the Cloud Forests of Central America for human kind.
