Summaries

Animated version of Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic story about a spirited young man raised by the animals in the jungle who makes his first contact with other humans when a young woman named Jane arrives in the jungle years later.

Shipwrecked off the coast of Africa and marooned in the heart of the vast, unforgiving jungle, orphaned John Clayton, Jr., the infant son of Lord and Lady Greystoke, is rescued and adopted by the compassionate, childless ape-mother, Kala, who names the boy Tarzan. Reared in the bosom of his new family of gorillas, the young ape-man learns the ways of the forest and grows into an intelligent member of the simian community. Then, the beautiful Englishwoman, Jane Porter, sets foot in the tangled, green realm, along with her scientist father, Professor Archimedes Porter, and Esmeralda, their housekeeper, and unprecedented feelings of affection start to emerge. Will fearless Tarzan of the apes unearth the secret of his identity, and in the process, discover his true destiny?—Nick Riganas
