The Catch is based on a true story of cheating in a fishing contest. Set in a small picturesque village in the Kaipara Harbour in New Zealand, who's very survival depends on the annual contest, Brian and Bill are good friends and when a large snapper falls into their hands through tragic circumstances days before the contest, Brian, who's life is in turmoil, recently divorced and in extreme financial difficulty - surrenders to the temptation to keep the fish, enter it in the competition, win the prize money and sort out his woes. Bill is dead against it and when Marcus the ruthless local professional fisherman enters the picture and attempts to blackmail Brian, things get complicated. The film is a test of friendship, trust, morals and the triumph of good over... not exactly evil... but, pretty nasty. All set against the backdrop of over-fishing and ecological frailty.—SMB
