Pyramiden is an abandoned town surrounded by eternal arctic ice and glaciers, halfway to the North Pole, in the ice cold island of Spitsbergen, in the Svalbard archipelago. Through the eyes of an amnesiac time traveller who lost himself after an accident. Without remembering a single thing about his past or mission, the traveller must brave the pristine, immense icescape in order to survive. Unarmed, provisionless and threatened by the intense cold, he starts a solitary journey, looking for signs of human life and leaving messages behind. He finally arrives at the outskirts of a town before collapsing. He is found and given treatment by the very few local residents, who believe he is their long awaited chronicler. They urge him to write about the former coal-mining settlement. Wandering around, the time traveller plunges into Pyramiden's past, following the traces of former inhabitants and made-up characters, who only exist in his mind. They all become part of his chronicle. Inside the buildings, among dust and patina, he finds untouched remnants of the former inhabitants' lives. The more the traveller tries to understand the place or the actual dwellers, the more puzzled he feels. Everybody seems to be indefinitely waiting for something, killing time with apparently senseless habits, and unwilling to clearly answer the most basic questions. While he keeps searching for meaning the traveller becomes gradually unable to distinguish reality from fantasy. Unable to leave, the time traveller ends up overwhelmed by a figment of his own imagination: at the very heart of the coalmines that kept this utopian city going, an absurd secret is hidden - He finally understands that he must overcome fear and fight for his life or he will merge into the realm of the dead.—Anonymous
