Facing xenophobia and insecurity present in modern societies, the CouchSurfing (CS) project is a new approach to overcoming these overwhelmingly negative characteristics in modernity. The CS project's mission is to create a better world through the exchange cultures and the opening of homes, minds, and hearts. The CS project first started to allow travelers the opportunity to stay with local hosts for no cost. Over the last few years, the project has developed and received a lot of attention in the media and from scholars around the world.
