Chabela Vargas (Sofía Álvarez) is a tomboy rancher, and her father is desperate to marry her to Carlos Millán (René Cardona), a visiting engineer who arrived with the intention to sell new agricultural technologies. However, Lorenzo (Pedro Infante), her companion since childhood, has always been in love with Chabela and, getting notice of her impending marriage, he feels depressed. During the yearly feast, Chabela dresses up like a real lady and becomes the focus of everybody's attention. Eventually, Chabela and Lorenzo fight in barn, but then they kiss, make up, sang together the folk song La Barca de Oro, get married, and a baby daughter is born. As time goes by, Chabela's daughter looks, and acts exactly like her mother used to.—Artemis-9
