The straight-laced Prof. Utonium's attempt to create perfect little girls accidentally includes "Chemical X", resulting in take-charge red-head Blossom, blonde sweety-pie Bubbles and ready-to-fight brunette Buttercup. These flying, super-strong, karate-chopping girls with the occasional heat vision race into action to save the city of Townsville (and, we're told, the world) from all sorts of crimes and creatures.—Ray Schaff -2-

Synopsis

The series centers on a trio of Child aged, female superheroes, titled the Powerpuff Girls (PPG).

The origin:

The Girls were accidentally created by Professor Utonium, while trying to create the perfect little girl, using the ingredients of Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice. He was stirring in all the ingredients and knocked in some Chemical X by accident, causing a big explosion and thus creating the crime fighting females.

The Girls:

Blossom (Cathy Cavadini): The self proclaimed leader of the trio is Red Head Blossom. As well as being the leader, she is also the smartest and most academic of the group. Blossom is often dressed in a pink dress, White Stockings, Black Mary Janes and a red bow in her hair, which has a pony tail. As proven in the episode, Ice Sore, Blossom develops Ice Breath and later Fire Breath.

Buttercup (E.G. Daily): The Tomboy of the group and the toughest fighter, Buttercup is the Brunette, who wears a Green dress, White Stockings and Black Mary Janes. Buttercup is clearly the angriest Powerpuff Girl and can sometimes go too far with her aggressive nature. However, there has been times where she has been vulnerable, such as when she was searching for her own special power in the episode, Nuthin Special, where she finds out she can curl her tongue, of which her sisters cannot. It is later revealed that Buttercups powers come from her blanket and she is powerless without it.

Bubbles: (Tara Strong): The third and final official Powerpuff Girl is sweet, kind-hearted, blonde, Bubbles. Bubbles is often dressed in a blue dress, White Stockings and black Mary Janes and has pig tails in her hair. Bubble's special power is having the ability to speak multiple languages, as well as understanding animals. Aforementioned, Bubbles is the kindest of the three and while the others rush into action, Bubbles tries politely asking the villains or monsters to leave. When push comes to shove, Bubbles can be just as feisty as her sisters to take down the force of evil. She is also seen carrying around her stuffed Octopus, Octi.

Bunny (Christine Cavanaugh): Bunny is a failed experiment of the girls own attempt to create an extra pair of hands to help them do their jobs. Unfortunately, Bunny explodes at the end of, Twisted Sister, so we don't know much else about her.

Professor Utonium (Tom Kane): Is the girls unbiological father, but he still treats the girls as if they were his own children biologically. Professor Utonium makes sure the girls still get a good education with their teachers, Ms Bellum (Jennifer Martin) and Ms Keane (Jennifer Hale). The Professor tries to create the perfect balance of normality and crime fighting in the girls life.

When there is crime, the Mayor (Tom Kenny) a short stubby man uses the Powerpuff hot line to reach the girls whenever there is a crime being committed.

The Villains:

Mojo Jojo (Roger Jackson): An evil green chimpanzee, with high intellect and a gruff voice, Mojo is probably the girls biggest threat in the series and like Utonium he works in a lab, trying to make and use new creations to get rid of the girls. Mojo wears a big white hat with purple stripes, a purple cape, blue apron, Spiky White shoes and white gloves.

HIM (Tom Kane): The very definition of the devil, HIM speaks in a high pitched tone of voice and mostly refers to himself as the lord of the underworld. Being the devil, HIM is mostly red and dresses in a red suit with frilly pink bits and a belt. He also has claws for hands.

Princess Morbucks (Jennifer Hale): Princess Morbucks is the rich, bratty girl at the Powerpuff Girls school and she desperately desires to be a Powerpuff Girl herself, but instead of trying to join them, she made it her job to destroy them and get red of them once and for all. Morbucks wears a tiara on her red hair, black gloves, a yellow and black striped dress, white stockings and black shoes.

Fuzzy Lumpkins (Jim Cummings): A large, purple, fuzzy hillbilly creature, with a green nose who loves to play the banjo. Fuzzy also has antennae and a Jean jacket and brown shoes.

The Ganggreen Gang, consist of, Ace (the leader), Big Billy, Snake, Arturo and Grubber. They go around Townsville, wreaking havoc, playing crank calls and Bullying. Despite them being foes of the Powerpuff Girls, Buttercup appears to have a crush on Ace, in the episode, Buttercrush.

The Amoeba Boys, consisting of, Bossman, Junior and Slim, they plan to be seen as true villains, but unfortunately couldn't physically come up with a revenge plan on the Powerpuff Girls for imprisoning them.

The Rowdyruff Boys are the male Counterparts of the Powerpuff Girls and consist of Brick, Blossoms equivalent, Butch, Buttercups equivalent and Boomer, Bubbles equivalent. They were created by Mojo Jojo to destroy the Powerpuff Girls, but in the end, they were an easy mark for the Powerpuff Girls and were killed, but were resurrected by HIM in the underworld.

Sedusa (Jennifer Hale): She is based on Medusa, but is also an expert at disguises, as she was briefly able to make Professor Utonium fall in love with her, in the episode Mommy Fearest. She uses her disguise to ground the Powerpuff Girls, so she can go and raid the Mayors safe.

Major Man (Jeff Glen Bennett): Major Man is a new superhero in Townsville and in the episode Major Competition, he overshadows the Powerpuff Girls and becomes the new hero in town, much to the girls jealousy. However, he is later found out to be a fake and sets up all of his heroics, so he can appear to be the hero and save the day.

At the end of every episode, a love heart appears in the background, as the narrator (Tom Kenny) says that the Powerpuff Girls have saved the day.
