Synopsis

At the beginning of the movie Chen and Princess Mei Li, are a couple who love each other very much as Chen paints the family portrait on the wall near the ancestors. But their romantic moment is interrupted when the Emperor, along with Fang, his sorceress and the Royal Guards, arrest Chen. Fang casts a spell on Chen transforming him into a dragon. After the Music Festival Mei Li, tells Odette about the truth and she asks her if she could stay at Swan Lake with Chen. Although Odette is pleased, she counters that Mei Li would eventually miss her home. The best thing that Mei Li could do is go back to Cathay with Chen, Prince Li and Ru and Mei Li asks Odette if she and Derek go along with them.

Odette and Derek get their things together for their first journey at the open seas, without Alise, due to her and Lucas being in the Kingdom of Borromeo for the tulip festival. Odette and Derek wave goodbye to Lord Rogers, Queen Uberta, Jean Bob, Speed and Puffin. Prince Li still thinking about Alise while holding the The Swan Princess Music Festival Award that he had won from the competition at Alise's coming of age ball and Mei Li notice that he had truly loved Alise although breaking the spell was the greatest joy that she'll be always be grateful and Mei Li and Chen are still worried to do the right thing. In the middle of the ocean, the passengers see the traditions of a Cathay Wedding: the bride has to wear a veil, and when Mei Li and Chen's eyes meet they are joined forever. By daybreak they arrive at the Empire of Cathay and Mei Li and Chen hide in the ship's hold in fear of being seen. Later they become nervous about the Emperor's decision so they run into the forest.

Odette and Derek are welcomed by the Emperor and Prince Li who is proud to bring honor to his family introduces Odette and Derek. Odette gives the Emperor a welcome gift, a magic poem. The Emperor is very honored and pleased. While Odette recites the poem she tells the story of Mei Li and how she tried to break the spell on Chen and how her brother Prince Li was the one who broke the spell. The Emperor feeling guilty for what he done to his daughter, gives them his blessing. But Mei Li and Chen aren't on the ship, so Derek and Prince Li, search for them. Fang has other plans. Using her eyes she breaks a bridge so Mei Li and Chen can't escape. Li and Derek arrive and brings the news to both and Mei Li and Chen who are overjoyed to hear that her father finally accepts Chen into the royal family.

While in the forest, Mei Li runs into Fang who turns her into an old woman. Mei Li tells Fang that she won't get away with that and that she will not feel true love. Fang doesn't care and transforms into Mei Li to fool everyone. She warns that when the wedding is complete, the real Mei Li will die.

During a tour of the castle, Fang comes to Odette and Derek with "bad news" saying that Queen Uberta is sick and Alise was not OK. Worried Odette and Derek get ready to sail home but Mei Li now in her transformation begs Odette to believe her. At night, Odette gets haunted by the words that the old woman told her, Scully appears in his ghost form, tells them the truth, that Queen Uberta is not sick and she orders Scully to see if everything is OK. Odette and Derek realize that Fang has lied, and sends Scully to get Uberta, Lord Rogers, Jean Bob, Puffin and Speed as reinforcements, afterwards Odette and Derek use a lifeboat to get back to Cathay.

They inform Li about what Fang is up to and agrees to help them. Li brings Odette and Derek to an underground cave to show them how to defeat Fang. it turns out the sorcerer's flame is the source of Fang's power, they don't notice that Fang is watching and listening. Odette and Derek now clad in Chinese clothes enter into Fang's Lair, and Fang in Mei Li's form says she'll keep an eye out in case Fang comes back. Li gives Derek the key to Fang's Lair. Inside Derek and Odette read something on a spider web: You should not have come back. Then a huge spider attacks them Li hearing Odette's calling defeats the spider and helps them to escape. Li is certain that Fang is up to no good but before having the proof Uberta, Rogers and the animals arrive in a flying carriage.

Uberta claims to be an opera singer named Madame LaCroix and Lord Rogers an inventor/talent agent named CJ Pennypacker and all are working as a team. Mei Li is devastated that nobody believes her and when she tries to tell Odette that she's Mei Li Fang uses her evil magic to make her silent, and Ru takes her to other side of the Empire. Odette and Derek notice that the fake Mei Li is none other than Fang. Uberta and Lord Rogers are welcomed by the Emperor but Fang wants them sent away. In the end Fang brings Lord Rogers into the Cave. While searching for the Old woman, no one has seen her, Puffin, Jean Bob and Speed are on their own mission. they end up in Fang's Lair and find a holographic picture of Chen and Fang kissing each other.

They bring it to Derek and Odette and they inform Li about it. Li is horrified. He quickly informs his Father, and the Emperor is disappointed so he goes to the cave to take away Fang's powers. Fang begs him not to do it and says that she'll leave the kingdom. In the meantime Odette and Derek find and confront Fang but Fang imprison them inside the mural. No one can hear them but they can hear everything. Mei Li is bought into a house by Ru who tells her about how brave she was and that he was her tutor like a second father to her. Mei Li cries and the portrait shows a single tear.

Odette and Derek are still trapped inside and they see Fang turning into Mei Li. The fake Mei Li wants to advance the wedding and when her eyes meets with Chen's the real Mei Li will die. The Wedding is coming and Fang and the Emperor are going to the moon bridge when they arrive Uberta starts to sing a beautiful song which makes Lord Rogers cry. In her pain, Mei Li imagines her with Chen as she cries, a single tear comes out from Mei Li's mural which sets Odette and Derek free. They rush to stop the wedding. Just when Chen is about to lift the veil Odette and Derek shout not to do it. Odette says that it's Fang not Mei Li. At first no one believes them but when Ru carries Mei Li who holds Odette's hand and tries to convince the emperor that she is his own daughter. As Odette says I believe you, Mei Li turns back in herself again. Fang confesses that she wanted Chen for herself. But Chen loves Mei Li and both are reunited again.

Now everyone sees Fang's evilness, one by one they are captured inside the mural frame, Li goes to the cave to stop Fang but he notices that Fang rotated the combination. The Emperor prays to the ancestors to protect his children and the good people. Odette and Mei Li are still out there and everyone is terrified. Fang changes into a giant purple fire breathing fang snake to kill Mei Li. Odette wants Mei Li to run, Prince Li with the help of a girl named Yu Yan try to overturn the boiler to put out the sorcerer's flame. Odette hides by a stone in order to defeat Fang. Mei Li says: I'm the one who you really want. Go ahead do your Evil. But Odette jumps into the fire to save Mei Li's life.

With Fang gone forever, everyone is free. Derek runs to the place, where Odette and Mei Li are. Mei Li cries holding Odette's unconscious body and Derek fears the worst for his wife. But Odette awakens and smiles weakly up to all who are surrounding her. And the Emperor says: All Hail the Swan Princess. And everyone kneels down.

Odette recovers and all are returning back to Swan Lake. The emperor cries for the first time in years. The movie ends with the Emperor seeing the portrait, seeing himself, his wife, his son Prince Li, Yu Yan, his daughter Princess Mei Li and his son-in Law Chen.
