A group of mutants fight against the pollution-loving alien Dr. Killemoff in the fictional city of Tromaville, led by Toxie, a nerd-turned-superhero.

The cartoon follows roughly the same plot as the films The Toxic Avenger and it's two succeeding sequels. A complete and hopeless nerd, Melvin, falls into toxic waste and becomes Toxie, a hideously deformed mutant of superhuman size and strength. Teaming with other mutants, No-Zone (whose power comes from radioactive sneezes), Major Disaster (he can control plants), Head-banger (Fender, a singing telegram delivery surfer-type, and Dr. Bender, a stereotype mad scientist, fused together - a hybrid character based on the Siamese twins in "Troma's War") and Junkyard, a dog/hobo hybrid, to become The Toxic Crusaders! Together they fight crime in every sense of the word and finally turn their attention on the Apolalypse Inc. of the movies Toxic Avenger Parts II & III, although in the series the chairman is an alien as opposed to Satan. The series follows the attempts of the crusaders to fight crime and be environmentally safe.—Andrew Moncrieff <[email protected]>

After years of silence from the Apocolypse INC (from part 2 and 3 of the Toxic Avenger seriers), Apocolypse INC returns to Tromaville under new management, instead of a demon, its an alien from the planet Smogulla known as Dr.Killemoff. Toxie has too battle Apocolypse once more to protect his hometown from the evil spage doers and the fat and corrupted Mayor. But he won't have to do it alone as a group of other mutant superhero's join him in the fight, NoZone, Junkyard, Headbanger, Major Disaster and Toxie become THE TOXIC CRUSADERS.—Tromaville SPEAKER

Based on the 1985 Troma classic "The Toxic Avenger, " although not as raunchy as the original film, this syndicated cartoon series features Melvin Junko and other similarly deformed mutated people in a battle against intergalactic polluters from outer space, as well as Tromaville's ever-corruptable Mayor Grody.—Daniel Timothy Dey
