A local children's show hosted by Dick Dyszel as "Captain 20", aired on WDCA-TV Channel 20, Washington D . C., between 1980 and April 1987. The hot buzz words at the time amongst the critics were "television viewing skills"; the skills needed to watch TV objectively. Dyszel met with local educators, sat-in on a number of pre-school classes and eventually came up with the concept behind the show "WOW!". The set was designed for one host and four children. Sometimes a child did not show, or as on a few rare occasions, up to six kids would participate due to some special activity. The format was very simple: One-by-one, each kid would slide-in "down the sliding board", introduce themselves to the viewing audience, and eat a nutritious snack.—Paul Gerard Kennedy
