The ancient Spanish empire stretched from the Americas to Asia. As soon as your plane sets down in Loreto, Baja California, Mexico the first Spanish capital of the Californias you'll know why it's called "the place where mountains come to swim." The town lies between the Sierra de la Giganta Mountains and the Sea of Cortes.
