Moscow, 1974. During the premiere show, the leading fashion model, Mila Nikanorova, was found hanged in the back room of the House of Models on Kuznetsky Most. The principled and stubborn MUR investigator Kirill Bessonov begins the investigation.

The end of the 1960s. Kirill and Nadezhda are happy parents of two sons. A new party organizer, Vadim, is coming to the village. Kirill falls in love with his wife Valentina, and a conflict breaks out between the men. And when Vadim dies hunting, suspicion falls on Kirill.

Based upon his trilogy of autobiographical books "I can Jump Puddles", "This is the Grass" and "In Mine Own Heart".

1826, St. Petersburg. After the suppression of speeches on Senate Square, the investigating commission begins to search for participants in the Decembrist uprising. Some of them come across to the authorities because of informers. Suddenly, a series of brutal murders take place in St. Petersburg: those who denounced the Decembrists become victims. Near the bodies of the dead, there is invariably a piece of paper with lines from a poem by the young poet Alexander Pushkin. A Moscow detective and a nobleman, Alexander Boshnyak, who was released from custody, take up the investigation of the case.
