The Jungle Book: The Adventures of Mowgli

Mowgli, an orphaned infant who has wandered into the jungle, is adopted by two wolves.

Despite having no claws or fangs to hunt with, Mowgli discovers an effective way in which he can catch his prey.

Mowgli is determined to fulfill the wishes of his adoptive father Alexander.

Mowgli wonders why his brothers have been inexplicably thrown from their mother's home, and why Akela insists on hunting the weaker prey.

Mowgli tries to help Kichi, a young red panda who is new to the jungle.

The monkeys use a vulnerable Kichi as bait in an attempt to trap Mowgli.

When Baloo loses his patience and slaps Mowgli, the young boy runs away and disregards Baloo's warnings about the "cold fang."

Baloo puts his life at risk in an attempt to rescue Mowgli, who is in serious danger.

Mowgli insists on helping his injured wolf-brother Akru, who is being shunned by the other wolves for breaking the law of the pack.

An old lone wolf claiming to have been a good friend of Alexander's joins the pack. Meanwhile, food from the emergency reserve is being stolen.

Mowgli and Bacchus are accused of stealing from the food reserve, but Bagheera blames the theft on an evil spirit.

Mowgli volunteers for a dangerous scouting mission, but little does he know that he is being followed.

Vermillion returns after a long absence, and offers to take leadership of the wolf pack when he learns of Alexander's death.

The monkeys capture Mowgli, taking him to "The Cold Lair," the ruins of a city once inhabited by humans.

While Mowgli is being rescued from Shere Khan and the monkeys, three men arrive to search for buried treasure among the ruins of the ancient city.

Mowgli becomes unhappy when some of the wolves blame him for the departure of their new leader, Vermillion.

Convinced that his presence is only causing problems in the wolf pack, Mowgli decides to leave.

After walking for some time in an unfamiliar area, Mowgli falls into a trap dug in the ground. Meanwhile, Chil the kite has lost track of where Mowgli has gone.

A human who has rescued Mowgli continues to ail him to good health, while Bagheera, Baloo and the wolves set out to find Mowgli.

Mowgli's mother throws him out of her den, causing him to find a new lair.

A drought has hit the jungle, and Hathi the elephant invokes the "water truce," forbidding any animal from hunting at the only remaining water source.

Hathi the elephant tells Mowgli and the other animals how fear was first experienced in the jungle by their ancestors long ago.

While hunting, Mowgli helps free a deer from a trap instead of taking advantage of its situation and killing it, much to the dismay of the other wolves.

Lala, who is usually quite nasty towards Mowgli, suddenly becomes docile.

Grizzle, a wolf who had been banished by the pack, returns to the jungle and forces Akela to accept his presence.

Mowgli and the others learn that Grizzle has been working with Shere Khan.

Akela is unwell, and without his guidance the wolf pack is unsuccessful in their hunts.

Mowgli and the others learn that Grizzle is still in the jungle, and is planning to usurp Akela's leadership with the help of another wolf.

With a plan of attack, Mowgli and the others set out to find Grizzle's hiding place.

Mowgli and the others defeat Grizzle, but the wolf pack is still in need of a new leader.

Mowgli finds Vermillion and asks him to take Akela's place as leader of the wolf pack.

While searching for medicinal plants to treat Bagheera's wounds, Mowgli runs into the man who had saved him from the trap. This time, he has a young girl named Jumeirah with him.

Mowgli begins to visit Jumeirah more frequently, who teaches the boy to speak the human language. Meanwhile, Shere Khan has been keeping track of Mowgli's whereabouts.

In an attempt to save Jumeirah from Shere Khan, Mowgli engages in a fight with the tiger.

Mowgli is very attracted by the lifestyle of his own kind and wants to stay with Jumeirah.

Buldeo, the evil hunter of the village, and Ganshum's grandfather, tells his outraged fellow villagers an incredible story: one day, he ventured deep into the jungle and came upon some grey monkeys guarding the secret of eternal youth, who offered him some delicious wine.

In order to avenge his wolf father, Alexander, Mowgli is determined to kill Shere Khan with a dagger and the help of his friends, but Chil reports that the tiger has disappeared.

Akela's plan of attack against Shere Khan calls on Mowgli to play a decisive role: the boy will be the one who engages the tiger in the final duel. After overcoming much peril, he is to succeed in this endeavor.

The villagers are furious at Mowgli for taking away their buffaloes. Baldev leads a delegation of the villagers to chase Mowgli down and retrieve their buffaloes.

Mowgli decides to take Sher Khan's skin back to the village to prove to Baldev that he has completed his promise. Akela agrees as Mowgli truly deserves the skin as a trophy. The wolves are happy and plan to celebrate this stunning victory. This is when Chil arrives and warns everyone that humans are approaching their position. All the animals hide, and Baldev finds Mowgli alone with a dead Sher Khan.

Baldev accuses Mowgli of stealing their buffaloes and vows to punish him. Mowgli says that he didn't steal the buffaloes and they only helped him in the fight against Sher Khan. Baldev is stunned to see the dead body of the tiger who had been attacking their village. Baldev had sent the villagers to collect their buffaloes, and he was alone with Mowgli at the time of this conversation. When the villagers return, Baldev says that Mowgli is lying and that a boy cannot kill a tiger with a torch and a knife.

He asks the villagers to search for other clues to figure out exactly what happened. The villagers find 2 dead Hyenas nearby who had been killed by the horns of the buffaloes. Baldev pounces on this and claims that the tiger was gored to death by the buffaloes and not killed by Mowgli.

Baldev convinces the villagers that Mowgli is lying to claim Rs 100 award for killing the tiger. Baldev says that Mowgli will be punished, and the award will be distributed amongst the villagers, since their buffaloes killed the tiger. Baldev wants to burn Sher Khan's skin, but Mowgli stops him since Baldev has no right to Sher Khan's skin. Baldev pulls a gun on Mowgli intending to kill him, and Mowgli calls for help. Everyone emerges from their hiding place and Akela pins Baldev down. Baldev concedes that Mowgli has killed the tiger. Mowgli declares that he will bring the skin of Sher Khan to the village. The wolves let the villagers leave.

Mowgli returns to the village with the tiger skin but finds that everyone is afraid of him. He takes the tiger skin to his own family and declares that he has killed Sher Khan. Mowgli declares to the village that he has fulfilled his promise. Baldev steps forward and alleges that Mowgli is a wolf. He only looks like a human. The other villagers who were with Baldev, support this narrative and describe how Mowgli is friends with wolves, jaguar, a bear and a python. Baldev declares Mowgli to be Shaitan. The villagers want Mowgli to leave the village. Mowgli's family argues that Mowgli is a human. In face of fierce public opinion, Mowgli decides to leave the village voluntarily.

Mowgli takes Sher Khan's skin with him and returns to the jungle. Baldev wants the skin and shoots at Mowgli, but Bagheera secretly arrives and causes a stampede of the buffaloes, causing the villagers to scatter.

Chil the eagle, warns the animals of the Seeonee forest that a terrible calamity awaits them: an invasion by the dholes, a pack of red dogs pushed northwards by thirst and hunger.

The red dogs reach the forest of Seeonee where Mowgli is waiting for them. When the sun goes down, he puts Kaa's plan into action, luring the dogs into Death Valley where a swarm of black bees attacks them.

The forest is celebrating the mating season. Mowgli and Bagheera feel left out because all the wolves have found partners.

A mongoose called Rikki tells Mowgli that after Buldeo vented his rage on Mowgli's adopted family, that the villagers kidnapped Jumeirah and her parents, believing them to be demons.

Mowgli rushes to the village to help Radha. Meanwhile Bagheera, Akru and Pakdu create a lot of scary noises that petrify Baldev and Lallan. They both fall unconscious. The trio then head to the village to help Mowgli.

The mongoose goes into the village and finds that the Village Sarpanch, called Pehelwan, is preparing 2 large wooden pyres. The mongoose checks all the huts in the village and finds the one where the villagers have imprisoned Radha and her family members.

The villagers are all against Radha and her family for sheltering Mowgli. They all are also supporting Pehelwan, since he is the Sarpanch of the village and the villagers are hoping for a reward if they support him in punishing Radha and her family members.

Bagheera, Akru and Pakdu meet Mowgli outside the village and tell him how Baldev and Lallan were scared unconscious by them. Meanwhile Baldev and Lallan have regained consciousness and are now headed back to the village.

The mongoose returns from the village and report to Mowgli that Radha's family is alive, but very weak. He has located the hut in which they have been imprisoned. Mowgli decides to enter the village at night. Bagheera tells Mowgli to be cautious of humans. Pehelwan has lit the pyres at night. Mowgli enters the village with the mongoose as his guide.

The villagers are busy chatting near the pyres. The mongoose is able to guide Mowgli through the dark passageways and to the hut where Radha and her family are imprisoned. There are several obstacles, and the villagers are still moving around the village, so Mowgli and the mongoose have to be extremely cautious while making progress towards their destination. The villagers are wondering where Baldev is and hope that he will return soon from the jungle. The target hut is protected by armed guards, but it is towards the back of the village, away from the pyres.

At the hut, the mongoose, engages the 2 guards and starts to play with them. The guards were also bored while sitting alone and welcome the distraction and entertainment with the mongoose. Mowgli uses the distraction provided by the mongoose to climb a tree and from there jump on top of the hut. He removes the wooden bars from the attic window and enter the hut. Inside he finds Radha and her family bound at their arms and feet with ropes.

Mowgli proceeds to free his family from the ropes. He tells everyone that they need to escape as soon as possible as their lives are in danger. The mongoose keeps the guards distracted, so Mowgli can go about his plan without any obstacles. Bagheera, Akru and Pakdu are waiting for Mowgli outside the village. Akru is getting restless, but Bagheera asks him to have patience as it will take time to rescue the entire family.

After a while, Bagheera also gets restless and decides to intervene to help Mowgli in the village. Usha tells Mowgli that she has a brother in another town and proposes to go there for safety of her family. They have not eaten anything for 2 days. As Bagheera enter the village, the bells starts tolling at the pyres.

With the help of the other animals, Mowgli makes it possible for Jumeirah and her family to escape, and, at the same time, manages to scare the villagers so badly that they do not attempt to even follow the fugitives. In order to avoid more problems, the animals then destroy the village and drive the humans out of the jungle.

Everyone is celebrating the birth of Sura and Lala's two cubs, but Mowgli feels homesick for Jumeirah.

Mowgli is sold by Riswan to John J. Hargreaves, an intermediary who supplies animals for circuses. During the night, Mowgli manages to escape from the cage he is being held in.

Mowgli misses Jumeirah and thinks about her all the time, but he is distracted by the arrival of a herd of deer that is the perfect prey for hungry wolves.

Chameli calls for a meeting of the pack after Chil brings the news that a herd of deer is headed in their direction. Akru is assigned as the leader of the hunt. Akela is assigned to lead the 2nd group who is tasked with stopping the herd. The 3rd group, who will attack the deer will be led by Mowgli.

The hunt begins and the wolves surround the deer. Akru and his group lead the deer into a particular direction, where a trap has been laid for them. As the deer enter the designated path, Mowgli and his group attack the deer. Several deer are killed, and the hunt is a massive success.

Chameli credits the hunt to Akela and his pivotal role. But Akela is clear that he did not contribute as much, and the success of the hunt totally belonged to Chameli and her brilliant strategy. This is when a scout brings news that a pack of Hyenas have entered the wolf's territory and stolen a herd of buffaloes. The Hyenas are in a large group of more than a 100. Akela decides to lead the attack against the Hyenas and leaves before Chameli can object.

The wolves come face to face with the Hyenas and a brutal fight ensues. The wolves are winning when 3 Hyenas attack Akela simultaneously and injure him badly. It is very later before Mowgli arrives and rescues Akela from the Hyena attack. Mowgli brings Akela back to Leela's cave and prepares the herb medicine that he learned from Bhola. Mowgli applies the herbs to Akela. But the situation does not improve, and Akela gets weaker day by day. It has been 2 weeks since the attack and Akela's wounds are not healing. He is not responding to the herbs either.

Akela has also lost all his appetite. Bagheera tries to explain to Mowgli that Akela has lost his will to live, but Mowgli is not willing to accept this. Chameli also counsels Mowgli that death is an integral part of life. Chameli says that Akela has lived a full life and now needs rest. They should not stop him from moving on.

Mowgli is furious and can only yell in frustration and his inability to change anything. That night Mowgli sees Akela wandering outside his cave and decides to follow him. Akela goes to the top of a mountain and takes shelter in a cave. Mowgli protects Akela from wild dogs, when they try to attack an old wolf. Mowgli's ferocious assault forces the wild dogs to retreat.

Akela knows that Mowgli has been following him and invites him into the cave. Akela explains to Mowgli that he is now old and useless to the pack. Chameli will not exile him, so he chose to exile himself to live out his last days. Akela says that death is the ultimate truth of any life. Akela also says that Mowgli's true place is with the humans. He says that Mowgli will keep missing Radha and when it is unbearable, Mowgli will leave the jungle and live amongst the humans. Akela then takes his last breath in Mowgli's arms.

Hathi brings Mowgli Jumeirah's foulard, and immediately the boy wants to set out to join her, but he doesn't know where she is.
