Summary Canada might well have joined the American revolution particularly the former French colony Quebec. But an attempt to over throw the British governor in Quebec City failed. So it remained British and became even more so as hoards of loyalist from the United States immigrated to Canada. The war of 1812 provided a second opportunity for the United States to incorporate Canada but the effort again failed largely due to Canadian, rather than British, resistance giving Canada an identity separate - from the United States.
