S1.E4 ∙ Hold My Sword

Four ordinary kids face the extraordinary fact that a superhero really did exist in their city. The Silver Shadow is a forgotten crusader who waged a solitary war against crime and wrongdoing in the city 50 years ago. The kids discover a recording of the Silver Shadow's mind - an artificial intelligence the hero constructed in case he ever lost his fight against evil. The recording has a single purpose: to recruit a replacement. For our four kids, it's an opportunity of a lifetime - to learn and implement the Silver Shadow's heroic powers. They embark upon a bizarre double life - school kids by day, fledgling superheroes by night.

Ace Cooper, a stage magician, not only performs updated stage illusions and escapes for the crowds, but fights crime through a combination of stage props and his ability to "reveal the magic within" to use real magical powers.

A mysterious girl named Rita gathers heroes from the Super Sentai teams at the Planet Nemesis. The heroes are told that any wish they desire will come true if they can win the "Super Sentai Greatest Battle" tournament, the 160 heroes divided into 32 teams of five to compete against each other to have their wishes granted.

The premise of the game is inspired by, if not directly derived from, the movie Last Action Hero. However, it draws a huge amount of inspiration from the old Japanese "Henshin" superhero TV programs from the 1970s, such as Kamen Rider (and its many sequels) and Kaiketsu Zubat (both created by the late manga master Shotaro Ishinomori). (Just before a boss battle, Joe's helmet closes much like Zubat's.) While Joe and his girlfriend Silvia are watching a henshin drama during a date, Silvia is kidnapped by the movie's antagonist and taken into the world of the movies: Movieland. Joe is able to follow Silvia after being picked up and taken into Movieland by Captain Blue, the movie's protagonist, who has taken the form of a giant robot. Inside the movie, Joe must rescue Silvia from the evil Jadow, the game's network of villains. To help him, Captain Blue entrusts him with a V-Watch, telling Joe to transform into Viewtiful Joe upon saying "Henshin", but Joe made it into his personal catchphrase, "Henshin a go-go, baby!"
