Summary While chasing an orphaned kangaroo, Kate and Tob fall into a pit. After helping Tob out, Kate is frightened by a menacing sound that turns out to be a wombat, which Lucy-May then keeps as a pet. Clara is visited by Sylvia Princeton and learns that her husband is a part of the mining company in Mount Baker, where her father is seeking work. Shortly afterwards, Arthur and Lucy-May visit the Princetons' stately home, while Kate is forced to say home, much to her displeasure, as she is running a fever. Mr. Princeton asks Mr. Poppel that he consider working in his farm, while his wife still yearns for Lucy-May to stay with them.
