Summary Cosmologists believe that most galaxies have a supermassive black hole at their center. But at the center of the Milky Way there are some strange 'stars' referred to as G2 objects that seem to be stars orbiting the galactic center that become stretched out into more of a gas cloud before reforming into stars again. A recent proposal is that there is a large dense clump of dark matter along with or instead of a supermassive black hole in the Mily Way that is disrupting these stars.
