Summary The leading theory of our Solar System evolution postulates that a large planet was ejected in the distant past and it is now drifting through our galaxy. Astronomers expect there are many such planets but they are hard to detect so few were known until a recent study using infrared images found a collection of 170 nearby candidates, many times more than theories predict.
