S1.E20 ∙ Shad Rack and Other Tortures

Ace newsreel cameraman is working in a mythical European country when the king is assassinated. He gets his negatives out of the country and finds the young crown prince who is also in danger.

When young Tieh Chiao San is sent by his dying father to live with a former kung fu colleague in the town, he accidentally gets into trouble when messing with a gang running a snake-oil scam and then getting into a fight with an old drunkard. When Tieh reaches his destination he finds that the snake-oil gang is run by none other than his father's friend. He joins the gang but cannot bring himself to do the bad deeds demanded of him; this continues to the point where he is beaten and left for dead. Luckily he is rescued by the pretty Tsai Chiao and hidden out with her drunk uncle and leprosy suffering aunt as well as a Shaolin temple. Tieh uses his time to learn some new kung fu styles, which is just as well as it is not long till the gang come after him looking to finish the job.

Three females from a private detective agency are hired to find out what happened to a man who went missing while scuba diving.

Three comedians, mistaken for gangsters, find out they are being used for hiding stolen jewelry.

Monty Milde, a copy boy on a large daily newspaper in New York, dreams of becoming a real reporter. On his birthday, which is April 1st (April Fool's Day), a practical joker tells him he has been promoted to being a reporter, and sends him out to interview Mr. Harrie, who is furious because the newspaper has printed a story suggesting that domestic problems was behind the kidnapping of his young son. Monty goes through several ordeals, including being suspected of being the kidnapper, before he eventually unmasks the real kidnapper and recovers the child.

This amusing "Boerewors-western" will remind viewers of the Terence Hill and Bud Spencer spaghetti westerns, to which writer CF Beyers-Boshoff alludes in this movie's credits (which are a comic treat and not to be missed). It's 1930 and a gang has been terrorizing the locals for what seems like forever. But it's finally about to come to end with the arrival of Dingetjie and Daan, two mismatched brothers who aren't too bright, but can shoot and fight. They get a job looking after cattle for a local matriarch, but the gang gets Daan framed for bank robbery so they can steal the cattle. Dingetjie blows up the jail to spring Daan from captivity, and the local sheriff sets off after them, with a big shoot-out ensuing in the town square. Apart from its outrageous humor, savor Hal Orlandini's stand-out performance as the curiously fastidious villain.
