Ambitious detective Moon Jang-Yeol is exiled to the small town of Mujin in Chungcheon-do. Hoping to rack up points with his superiors and be restored to his former position in Seoul in a month, he's alternately frustrated and despairing about small town life - and the lack of small town crime. Hometown girl Bong Ye-Boon is working to build her practice as a veterinarian, get out of debt, and finally gain the approval of her grandfather, but an otherworldly event at a house call may change her relationship with her patients - and her entire life. Unnerved by her new abilities, Ye-Boon consults a shaman who claims to host the spirit of General MacArthur. From behind his aviator sunglasses, he tells her that her destiny is to become a shaman herself, and that the people closest to her could be hurt or die if she doesn't. When that dire prediction seems to be coming true, Ye-Boon tries to understand her strange powers, only to be arrested by Jang-Yeol for groping a passenger on a bus. Her new abilities help her make a life-changing difference for a client and a patient, but shake up her own life when she runs into Jang-Yeol yet again.

Captain Jong-Muk and his team are forbidden from investigating the serial killer case and are directed to "protecting people's livelihoods." As one suspect after another is eliminated, Jang-Yeol goes back to the beginning and questions all of his conclusions. Ye-Boon bursts into his home with a theory that connects all new dots in a terrifying way.

Even so, he makes a shocking discovery and confesses it to Ye-Boon. She manages to avoid all efforts to keep her safe, and as Jang-Yeol races to her rescue, he may already be too late.

Another death at the hands of the serial killer leaves both Ye-Boon and Jang-Yeol stunned, grieving, and guilt-ridden in their own ways. The victim provided them with the evidence to convict the killer, but the killer brags they have one shot left, and demands to be released in exchange for the life of the final victim.
