Everything takes place in Leche De Brea. A country where nobody knows nobody and everything is what it seems. When a new global virus called "garland" appears, President Romeo Betto (a.k.a. the "Dolce Duce") imposes an innovative treatment, the "yeartine", consisting in locking up the whole population all over a year while releasing the most notorious criminals and thieves. Meanwhile, to make matters worse, the scriptwriter and director of this film seems to have lost his mind.

Since her father died, 16-year old Juliet and her stepmother and two stepbrothers struggle financially to keep their ranch. But Juliet has a secret that could keep the ranch open: her horse, Horatio, can talk.

Honorin (Fernandel) is the simple and naive stage manager of a traveling theatre troupe, whose one ambition is to once play the role of the cavalier in the opera "Francis I, or the Loves of the Beautiful Ferroniere". A hypnotist puts him to sleep and in his dreams he is transplanted to the days of the Renaissance. There, among other items, he is made a Duke by Henri VIII, fights a duel and survives a series of medieval tortures, while also bestowing some 20th century blessings on the court of Francis I.

Two inept crusaders almost sabotage the christians' plan to conquer Jerusalem.
