The worst part is that his innocent girlfriend is also jailed, and she was only with him for the sight-seeing aspect of his travel. He is released from jail early after serving 3.5 years due to a prisoner exchange with Britain, where he serves two more years in jail in his homeland. Wanting to atone for his past life, he volunteers to travel to Ukraine to help the Ukrainians in the 2022 war that was started when Russia invaded Ukraine.
