Late at night, a police officer brings an abandoned pair of boxer pups--one of whom has been struck by a car--into Dr. Chris's practice. Chris works to treat the injuries and attempts to keep the brothers together. Meanwhile, a beloved dog named Dora sustains a venomous bite in a battle with a snake. When Dora arrives at SASH, Dr. Lisa helps her in a struggle for her life. Also, a veterinary intern becomes attached to an orphaned newborn kitten.

A bond is cemented between a foster family and a tiny puppy when the pup is diagnosed with a heart condition. Dr. Chris calls in surgeon Andrew Marchevsky to see if he can operate to repair the heart. Then, Chris is summoned to the marina where a boat owner wants to evict a vulnerable family of herons who have taken over the helm of his boat. Later, an extreme heat wave could have dire consequences for a treasured pet rabbit unless Dr. Chris acts fast.
