With a new school year approaching, Honoka succeeds Eli as student council president, with Umi and Kotori as her aides. Word soon reaches the gang that Love Live is taking place yet again on a larger scale then last year.
Once again, µ's pursues the Love Live tournament. A new rule is announced that only previously unperformed songs can be sung at regional preliminaries. The girls head to Maki's cabin in the mountains to write a new song.
The Love Live regional preliminaries are just ahead. The group is free to choose any location for their performance, so Honoka suggests they perform at school, but Nico and Hanayo insist they cannot win unless they choose a location with greater impact.
µ's makes it through regional preliminaries. The girls become extra motivated when rival group A-RISE has also made it through. Meanwhile, Nico begins to skip practice. The group follows her out of suspicion, and find she is grocery shopping.
While Honoka, Kotori and Umi are away on a field trip, Rin is assigned as temporary leader of the group as they prepare for a fashion event at the weekend. However, Rin isn't confident in herself and struggles with the responsibilities.
A-RISE and µ's are invited to appear in a Halloween event. The girls try new looks to improve their impact. However, Honoka decides they shouldn't change, as they have variety in members. Meanwhile, Yukiho finds something shocking in Honoka's room.
A physical exam reveals Honoka and Hanayo have gained weight. Meanwhile, Umi and Kotori take over Honoka's student council duties as she goes on a diet and causes a budget blunder.
When µ's has trouble agreeing on a song for the final preliminaries, Nozomi suggests writing a love song. The members are shaken by the idea of performing an unfamiliar genre, but Eli is surprisingly supportive.
Honoka faces difficulties due to snowstorm, but with the help of the other friends, the "Muses" manage to arrive in time for the performance stage and perform for the preliminary finals.
On their way to the local shrine to celebrate the new year, the girls run into A-Rise, who congratulate them on winning the Love Live preliminaries. Meanwhile, Nico, Eli and Nozomi worry about their impending graduation.
After discussing the future of the 3rd grade students, Honoka and the others announce the future of µ's following the conclusion of the Love Live tournament.
After a random draw, µ's is the last group to perform at Love Live. The girls have their final practice together and have a sleepover. The next day they arrive for Love Live for their final performance.
