A mysterious woman from Panceliss' past makes an unwelcome reappearance, but their reunion is short-lived though as her case in cut and dried. But an intruder ransacking his office adds confusion, threatening a contusion.
After Temperance sacks the ransacker, Panceliss hears more about the new client from Smitty than is good for Smitty's Job. With Smitty off the case and out of the scene, Constance leads Panceliss on a long chase off a short cliff, giving Sgt. McAdams an excuse to charge Panceliss with her murder.
McAdams loses a collar, but gains an alliance with Panceliss' support crew. Panceliss, in ropes, finds himself face to shadow-face with the mysterious crime kingpin, who has a new crew of henchman including a mystery man of action.
An unlikely alliance forged to find Panceliss converges on Three Street Junction for a game of street search roulette and Temperance draws the short straw. Meanwhile in the very lair they seek, a bound Panceliss and a literally shadowy crime kingpin parry over info the kingpin wants and Panceliss won't give, until the 5-time interrogator of the year applies the Kiss of Death!
With a little prodding, Panceliss stalls his interrogation with tales from his youth, giving the temporary allies a chance to burst upon the scene ... and Bruno's bubble of victory. Free again, Panceliss hangs another completed case on his wall, while Nottamole has awakened feelings, and a femme fatale, from the past.
