After liberating the park from Hemulen, Snufkin has become a father figure to a group of mischievous orphans. Together with Little My, they all spend the night at Fillyjonk's empty house. In the next day, to the theatre.
Moomintroll, Snork Maiden and Fillyjonk are imprisoned, guarded by the Park Keeper. But not for long. Hemulen's kindhearted cousin will release the innocent prisoners and after a tea break, they all rush to the theatre.
The premiere of the new play is about to begin. Moominpappa is still rewriting and stage fright lingers during the last rehearsal, but Little My's interference makes the night truly memorable. But also the Park Keeper is in the audience.

The trip to the observatory turns into mountaineering. High on the mountain, Moomintroll, Sniff and Snufkin encounter an eagle, find a familiar bracelet and witness a sudden storm. Then, above the clouds, they see it.
Finally, the highest point of the mountain: the observatory. Among the absent-minded scientists is an old professor, telling Moomintroll and his friends about Snork Maiden's visit and the comet heading for Earth. The descent begins.
The friends are on the move again and soon learn that the mountain can be treacherous. After lightening their load, the playfulness takes over. When Moomintroll slips off from the edge, it's time to focus on the mission at hand.
The butterfly-collecting Hemulen isn't pleased to hear that it was Moomintroll's party who caused the rock avalanche. But that is the least of their worries. Snork Maiden and her brother Snork are being attacked by an evil tree.
In the forest, the travelers find a little store. An elderly shopkeeper will do her best to find something nice for everyone and soon Moomintroll and Snork Maiden are exchanging gifts with each other. But what will this all cost?
There's a dance ball taking place in the woods. After a brief rehearsal the villagers gather in the forest, Snufkin conducts the musicians and there are many musical numbers. Moomintroll and Snork Maiden dancing a waltz steals the show.
The blood-red comet is closing in on Earth. It radiates heat, warming the landscape and drying up rivers. Moomintroll and his companions now have to cross the dried up sea bottom on wooden stilts. What lies in the mysterious shipwreck?
The comet will bring natural disasters in its wake. After a night on a high rock the travelers meet people fleeing Moominvalley, face a swarm of locusts, and endure both a storm and a tornado. Eventually the heavy wind will be their ally.
Good news: Moomintroll's party arrives home. Bad news: Also the comet is dangerously close to Moominvalley. The whole Moomin family packs and moves to a cave. Soon the fiery comet roars through Earth's skies. Is this the end of the world?
