The ancient Spanish empire stretched from the Americas to Asia. As soon as your plane sets down in Loreto, Baja California, Mexico the first Spanish capital of the Californias you'll know why it's called "the place where mountains come to swim." The town lies between the Sierra de la Giganta Mountains and the Sea of Cortes. The aquamarine Sea of Cortes, called the "world's aquarium " by Jacques Cousteau, encompasses the Bahia de Loreto National Marine Park which in turn is home to endless varieties of sea creatures including eight of the world's species of whales, dolphins, sea turtles and sea lions not to mention an ocean full of aquatic consumables.
