Amiboshi's twin, Suboshi, is out for vengeance over Amiboshi's murder. But Tamahome is equally enraged, and they battle it out. Devastated by what happened to Tamahome's family, Miaka pledges her allegiance in the fight against Seiryu.
Back on Earth, Miaka's brother Keisuke is busy studying the history of the Universe of the Four Gods. When he finds out what the people who wrote the book actually intended, he shares it with Miaka, who now must make a serious decision.
Miaka, Nuriko, and Tamahome are left shipwrecked after a lighting strike, and they seek shelter in an abandoned cave. When they are rescued, they finally land in Hokkan, the land of Genbu, where the Shinzaho is located.
Miaka and the Warriors arrive in the city of Touran in search of the Shinzaho, where they learn the history of the Shinzaho, and the Genbu Seven. Miaka, though, has other things on her mind: like whether to stay or go...
While Nuriko fights off the beast Ashitare, Tamahome confronts Yui to convince her to stop summoning Seiryu. Later, Nuriko consoles Tamahome before making a shocking admission...
Inside the cave of the Shinzaho, the Suzaku Warriors are confronted by Tomite and Hikitsu, two ancient ghosts of the Genbu Warriors.To prove herself worthy, Miaka must endure an icy challenge, and it could leave her literally frozen solid.
Upon leaving the cave, the Shinzaho is snatched from Miaka by Ashitare's wolf form. Hoping to get it back, Taiitsukun suggests to Miaka a rather risquė proposition.
Miaka and Tamahome are only briefly reunited before the illusionist Tomo of the Seiryu Warriors attacks. Tamahome is stabbed and dragged off a cliff, while Miaka is trapped in a strange (and not entirely unpleasant) dream.
With Tamahome and Miaka at a crossroads, and their destiny apparently sealed, love seems impossible. Meanwhile, the Seiryu Warriors get their hands on the second Shinzaho-the Shinzaho of Byakko.
Freed from their cell by a remorseful Yui, Miaka and Tatara of the Byakko Seven have a heart to heart, where Tatara reveals not only the second Shinzaho, but also what destiny has in store for Miaka and Tamahome...
The Suzaku Seven are put in a compromising position after Chiriko becomes possessed by Miboshi, Subaru and Tokaki of the Byakko Seven became teenagers again, and Yui prepares to summon Seiryu.
Yui succeeds in summoning Seiryu and makes her first wish. Miaka and the Suzaku Seven meet Hotohori's new empress, and Keisuke and Tetsuya learn the origin of Genbu Grotto.
Miaka is finally free to reveal Nakago's deceitful ways to Yui, just as Nakago appears before them. Later, Miaka begs Tamahome not to leave-and Tamahome proposes a wedding ceremony!
Back on Earth, Tamahome is pummeled by Nakago. Nakago then attacks Miaka and threatens her life if Yui does not grant his wish for immortality. But Yui has her own plans for her last wish....
