The Grand Old Lady
The Giraglia Rolex Cup, which celebrates its 63rd edition in 2015, includes one of the most renowned offshore races in the Mediterranean. The fleet will gather in the chic harbour of Saint-Tropez for three days of inshore competition before embarking on a 243-nautical mile offshore race to Genoa, Italy via the Giraglia, a rocky outcrop off the northern tip of Corsica. Created to rebuild ties between the French and Italian sailing communities following the second World War, the event has become a week-long celebration of Mediterranean sailing attracting close to 200 entrants. After last year's finish in Monte Carlo harbour the race returns to its traditional destination, Genoa.

A Rite of Passage
One of Sailing's greatest contests returns in August as the Rolex Fastnet Race celebrates its 90th anniversary. A sporting institution, Europe's oldest offshore race, run biennially, entails a gripping and demanding 608 mile odyssey from Cowes on the Isle of Wight to Plymouth via the Fastnet Rock, off Ireland's southern tip. A record fleet, approaching 400 vessels, is expected for an offshore challenge that remains a rite of passage for any sailor.

World class competition in one of the most stunning locations on the planet, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is one of the highlights of the Mediterranean yachting season. The first Maxi World Championship was held in Sardinia in 1980, the brainchild of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and its president, the Aga Khan. Now an eagerly anticipated annual event, the regatta attracts a sizeable fleet of majestic Maxi yachts to Porto Cervo each September. 2015 marks the 26th edition of the competition which comprises the sixth running of the much-vaunted Maxi 72 Rolex World Championship.

An off shore classic comprising a breath-taking circuit at the ancient heart of the Mediterranean, the Rolex Middle Sea race, a race which traditionally heralds the conclusion of the Mediterranean offshore season, commences and concludes in historic Valetta. For the 36th occasion a cosmopolitan fleet numbering over 100 vessels take on this classic adventure. The 606-nautical mile route takes in the Straits of Messina, the deep, azure waters of Sicily, the islands of Pantelleria and Lampedusa and Stomboli's active volcano as a mark rounding.

With a clubhouse located within Cowes Castle on the Isle of Wight and Queen Elizabeth II as patron, The Royal Yacht Squadron, is one of the most prestigious yacht clubs in the world and celebrates its bicentenary in 2015. The club's origins, development and current work will be charted in a film set around the key moments in the club's calendar; the Fleet Review, Cowes Week, The Rolex Fastnet Race, the Round the Island Race and the club's America's Cup challenger, Ben Ainslie Racing, will all feature in this celebration of 200 years of yachting history.
